چکیده

The potential relationships between biofilm formation and pathogenicity of in urinary tract infections(UTI)were investigated. Over a 12-year period from 1991 through 2002, a total of 352 isolates were collected from patients with complicated UTI(one isolate per patient) at the urology ward of Okayama University Hospital. We analyzed the prevalence and transferability of genes encoding virulence factors( / )and antimicrobial resistance( / ). The production of biofilm, hemolysin and gelatinase by these isolates was also examined and the associated medical records of patients were retrospectively reviewed. Of 352 isolates, 315 possessed and/or genes. Of the 63 hemolysin-and 167 gelatinase-producing isolates, 59 and 94 isolates, respectively, possessed both and genes. isolates with both and genes formed biofilms at significantly higher rates than those with neither gene( =0.038). The genes encoding , and / were transferable and appeared to have accumulated in these isolates. The isolates possessing and/or genes were found from both catheter-related or -unrelat

Evaluation of biofilm-forming capabilities of urinary Escherichia coli isolates in microtiter plate using two different culture media

The ability of uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) to cause symptomatic UTI is associated with the expression of a variety of virulence factors. Biofilm formation enables UPEC to resist the flow of urine and increases its tolerance to antimicrobials and the host immune response. The measurement of biofilm formation in vitro is affected by the type of culture medium used. The aim of this study was to e...

Investigation of Biofilm ability by Microtiter Plate Method in uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from patients with urinary tract infection with urinary stones.

Abstract: Background and Aim: Urinary tract infections are one of the most commonly reported nosocomial infections caused by colonization of E. coli in the mucosal epithelium and in the formation of microbial biofilms, which damage the host tissue. The aim of this study was to determine the amount of biofilm formation of uropathogenic E. coli based on urinary tract stones of people with urin...

Comparison of Congo Red Agar methods and tube turbidity in biofilm formation in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from cases of urinary tract infections in Samen Al-Aeme Hospital Bojnourd

Introduction Biofilm can be called a bacterial community that often forms on living or non-living surfaces and is common in natural, industrial, and hospital environments. Klebsiella pneumoniae as a pathogen has the potential to produce biofilms. Understanding biofilm formation in biofilm-forming bacteria is important. The aim of this study was to investigate the biofilm formation in isolates ...

Evaluation of the effect of IDR-1018 antimicrobial peptide and chitosan nanoparticles on imipenem susceptible and resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from patients with urinary tract infections from ICU

Background and aim: Excessive use of antibiotics has significantly increased resistance to common antibiotics in the treatment of urinary tract infections. In the present study, antimicrobial efficacy of chitosan nanoparticles and peptide IDR-1018 was evaluated against P. aeruginosa isolates. Methods: In the present study, 20 resistant and 20 sensitive P. aeruginosa isolates to imipenem were ...

Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance and Biofilm Formation Ability Uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) Isolated From Pregnant Women in Karaj

Background and Objective: Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are the most common cause of urinary tract infections. The binding of these bacteria to epithelial cells and the formation of biofilms cause these bacteria to be further colonized and difficult to remove in the urinary tract. This study aimed to determine the antibiotic resistance and to evaluate the biofilm formation power in Esch...
